Marine centre has visitor success
More than 5,000 people have visited a marine interpretation centre in Jersey in nine months.

The centre, at the end of Gorey Pier, is close to an area of wetland which has been recognised internationally for its importance to wildlife.

It opened at the start of June with 40,000 of funding from the Tourism Development Fund.

Project manager Sarah Le Claire said she was pleased at the success as the centre was not in the tourism brochure.

Ms Le Claire said preparations were under way for its summer programme.

She said she hoped more than 10,000 people would visit it in 2006, adding that a number of bookings had already been taken from French groups.
