There will be a viewing platform over the Royal Bay of Grouville

The facility, which recently received �40,000 from the Tourism Development Fund, will be situated in part of the harbour terminal on Gorey Pier.

It is scheduled to open on 14 May, which is the same day as Gorey's Fete de la Mer.

The centre will help teach people about the island's coastlines and sea life in an interactive way, through films, models, games and information boards.

People will be able to touch different materials and hear various sounds and learn about dolphins, shipwrecks, fishing and pollution.

After a two-year search for a suitable site, the Environment Department will share the ferry terminal passenger building with the Harbour authorities.

The building will still be used by ferry passengers during the summer months and there are plans for a viewing platform over the Royal Bay of Grouville, Seymour Tower and the French coast.
