There will be a viewing platform over the Royal Bay of Grouville

The harbour terminal at Gorey Pier will become a Marine Interpretation Centre and is due to open in mid-May.

Environmentalists want to use it to teach people about the island's sealife and coastline.

The money, from the Tourism Development Fund, covers about half the total costs and will go towards decorating the building and producing displays.

After a two-year search for a suitable site, the Environment Department will share the passenger building with the Harbour authorities.

The building will still be used by ferry passengers during the summer months and there are plans for a viewing platform over the Royal Bay of Grouville, Seymour Tower and the French Coast.
