States debating senator web claim
Jersey States members will decide on Tuesday whether to formally ask a Senator to remove allegations about financial regulators from his websites.

The Economic Development Committee wants Senator Ted Vibert to remove the comments about two managers at the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

It says they are damaging the finance industry. Mr Vibert denies this.

The comments relate to the managers' personal conduct and to the purchase of a house. Both deny any wrong-doing.

'Freedom of speech'

Committee President, Deputy Gerald Voisin, says Senator Vibert's behaviour is unacceptable and damages not only the people concerned but Jersey's name and reputation.

But Senator Vibert says he should be allowed his freedom of speech.

Also during the Tuesday debate, members will decide whether to sell the rights for a field at Maufant for housing development.

They will also vote on the structure of the tribunal which will judge on employment issues when the new laws come into force.

And members will be asked to agree that Jersey's new competition law should come into force on 1 May.
