Website comments upset senators
Allegations made on a States member's website about two financial regulators have sparked calls for an inquiry into the member's behaviour.

The comments relate to the director general of the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) David Carse, and his deputy Helen Hatton.

They were made by Senator Ted Vibert on his own website.

The heads of three States committees, are now asking the committee in charge of members' conduct for an inquiry.

Damaged reputation

They are asking whether it is appropriate for a States member to use his position to give credibility to such comments.

Senator Vibert says he is not concerned about plans for an investigation, called for by Senator Frank Walker, Senator Terry Le Sueur and Deputy Gerald Voisin.

Senator Walker said in a statement: "These allegations are deeply damaging not only to Mr Carse and Mrs Hatton but also to the standing and integrity of the JFSC and, by inference, to Jersey's reputation as a well-regulated and responsible finance centre."
