Top minister could get new powers
Jersey's chief minister is to be given the same decision making powers as one of the island's main committees, if the States agrees.

Currently the Policy and Resources Committee has official control and responsibility for the employment of all civil servants.

If changes are approved, this will transfer to the chief minister once he or she is elected.

Emergency planning will also come under the minister's control.

The committee says the changes to the legislation must be approved by the time a new ministerial style of government is introduced.

The committee is also asking members to transfer powers from the finance and economics committee to the new minister in charge of finance.
