 The Canadian company claims its waste plant is cost effective |
A �7m grant could be given to Jersey if the island builds a waste plant produced by a Canadian company, according to a States politician. The claim follows a scrutiny panel's investigations into the most effective way to deal with the island's rubbish.
Senator Ted Vibert says the panel heard evidence from a UK representative of the Canadian company Verno, which wants to build a waste plant in Europe.
He claims the Canadian government would provide a grant to help that happen.
The total cost of the plant would be in the region of �20m.
Verno wants to build a plant using plasma gasification, which it says is an environmentally sound solution to dealing with waste.
The company says the process does not produce hazardous bottom ash or fly ash and is cost effective because it does not need to be brought up to temperature using expensive fuel oils.
