The unemployment rise in Jersey has slowed dramatically, raising hopes that more people are finding work as the tourism season approaches. The number of people registered out of work in February rose by only two to 758 - compared to a January rise of 82.
Employment authorities are encouraged jobs in sectors such as tourism and leisure are becoming available.
Committee president Senator Paul Routier said more work in the construction industry was also helping.
"I think there are some projects which are getting up and running and I believe a slight turnaround is taking place in the industry," he said.
"There are several projects, such as the one in Gloucester Street and others around the island, which are starting to pick up now."
Unemployment has gone up almost four-fold since November 2002, when only 204 people were registered unemployed.
