More than 650 people are registered jobless in Jersey |
Employers in Jersey are being offered 500 to take on jobless islanders. Jersey's Training and Employment Partnership has set up a new scheme to help people trying to find work.
Unemployment has risen again in the island, with 674 registered jobless in December, compared to 642 the previous month.
The scheme is designed to help people get the skills they need to find a new job, such as how to write a good CV, interview skills and some computer training.
Extra help
Scheme director Sean Pritchard said some people needed extra help to get a new job.
"Changes in the job market have made it more difficult for individuals to actually compete and find employment.
"We are trying to help individuals to get first in the queue and be more successful in applying in the future.
"There are jobs there, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for job seekers to secure those positions."
The scheme is being run in conjunction with Highlands College and the Employment and Social Security Department.
The first 160 employers who take people on will get 500, providing the new employees have been looking for work for at least a month.
