Traffic scheme to be reviewed

The traffic scheme was to stay in place until April
A trial of traffic changes in the Jersey parish of St Helier is to be reviewed earlier than planned.

The scheme to change the direction of vehicles in Halkett Place and Minden Place was due to last for six months until April 2004.

But local businesses have complained it has had an adverse effect upon trade and have called upon the Public Services Committee to restore the old traffic system as soon as possible.

Public Services said it would review the new system and has requested an update on how things are going to be completed by January.

Traders in Halkett Place and in the surrounding streets say Christmas trade slumped because of the new traffic flows in the area.

They said they were disappointed their views were not taken into consideration previously.

Public Services said the review is because of the traders' concerns.
