The temporary release scheme has been suspended |
An independent report into the temporary release scheme at Jersey's La Moye prison is likely to be released soon. The report was commissioned into the scheme following a series of high-profile escapes.
The report is being compiled by Dr Debbie King, a former chief probation officer in the island.
She has been asked to investigate whether the prison's temporary release scheme is working.
Public concern
Effectively inmates are entitled to be released into the community before they have served half of their custodial sentence.
The scheme has been suspended because of public concern following the recent escapes.
Senator Wendy Kinnard, the president of the Home Affairs Committee, told the States she is expecting the first draft of Dr King's report next week.
Senator Kinnard also said the subject of parole for inmates would be examined in detail by groups looking at the development of a criminal justice policy for Jersey.
