There have been four other escapes this year |
Jersey's prison authorities are reviewing the system which allows prisoners to be escorted home on day release before they are released from prison. The news follows the escape at the weekend of Darren McCormack, who was on an escorted home visit when he ran away.
McCormack was out on a visit home, escorted by a prison officer, when he ran away in the Rouge Bouillon area.
Police are now considering the possibility he may have left the island.

Prison governor Mike Kirby said it was another embarrassment for the service, after four other escapes this year. He said there would be a full review of how the escorted release system worked to try and avoid similar incidents happening again.
But local Deputy Bob Hill said there needed to be a board to decide who should be eligible for release, instead of such decisions being taken by the governor.
Deputy Hill said it was up to Home Affairs to take a lead on this issue, to make sure only trustworthy prisoners were released back into society in Jersey.
In the search for Darren McCormack, police are considering the possibility that he may have left Jersey.
No public threat
All ports were put on immediate alert when he escaped on Sunday afternoon.
But the police are liaising with other forces in case he has managed to get off the island.
McCormack, 24, is described as 5 ft 11 in tall (1.78 metres), with short dark brown hair and a Scottish accent.
He was last seen wearing a Burberry jacket and black jeans.
Police say he is not a threat to the public but should not be approached.
