Airlines encouraged to cut fares
Jersey Airport
At the moment, 17 of every air ticket goes towards airport dues
Airlines using Jersey Airport are being encouraged to drop their fares.

It comes as the Harbours and Airport Committee announced it would not raise airport dues by the rate of inflation for the fourth year running.

At the moment, 17 of every air ticket goes towards airport dues.

But that is being cut because the committee is restructuring its charges.

It is transferring the costs of services such as the Met Office, so passengers will pay 1.50 less towards dues.

Transfer costs

The committee is also asking the States to transfer the costs of security at the airport to the island as a whole.

He said this would mean airport dues could fall by at least a further 2.

Meanwhile, ferry companies using Jersey's Harbour will only be charged half their dues this winter.

The committee has decided to cut its charges for the winter months to encourage people to use the services.

It follows a slight drop in the number of passengers travelling by ferry between the island and the UK.

Senator Norman said the discount would benefit both the companies and their passengers.
