The footpath is not classed as a public right of way |
A public inquiry is not going to be held into a footpath dispute between BBC Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson and walkers on the Isle of Man. Instead, a three-member delegation from Tynwald has been given the task of sorting out the access issue.
Mr Clarkson put a fence up at Langness lighthouse, to protect his privacy.
The pressure group Prowl (Public Rights of Way Langness) wants access to a footpath on his land. It is not a right of way, but a "permissive route".
Plans for a public inquiry sparked Tynwald debate, but the idea of a delegation to help sort out the issue was supported.
The delegation will be accompanied by a representative from the Attorney General's chambers.
Legal advice had been sought by the government over the dispute, which has been ongoing since 2005.
