Ferry firm in petition challenge
Superseacat Two
More than 1,000 people have signed the petition
A ferry firm has said many people signing an online petition against the ending of winter trips to Liverpool would never have used the service.

The Steam Packet Company will not sail any ferries to Liverpool Pier Head on Saturdays or Sundays from 9 November until 1 March 2008.

Instead it will sail the Ben-My-Chree from Douglas to Birkenhead in Wirral.

More than 1,000 have signed a petition calling for the Manx government and the Office of Fair Trading to intervene.

In a statement, the firm's managing director Mark Woodward said: "This petition bears no relation to the actual number of day trippers who have used this service in recent years.

"Many signing the online petition were not booked to go to Liverpool."
