DoT 'satisfied' with ferry times

The new schedule has angered Liverpool and Everton football fans
The Manx government was satisfied with changes to the Steam Packet's winter schedule which spell an end to weekend trips to Liverpool, it has emerged.

The Steam Packet Company will not sail any ferries to Liverpool Pier Head on Saturdays or Sundays from 9 November until 1 March 2008.

Instead it will sail the Ben-My-Chree from Douglas to Birkenhead in Wirral.

Tim Crookall MHK told the House of Keys that the Department of Transport (DoT) had been notified in good time.

This was in line with the agreement between the government and the Steam Packet Company, he said.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson raised the issue when he asked whether the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) would be taking any action over the changed schedule, which has angered football supporters and those who enjoy shopping trips to the city.

Mr Crookall said there had been no consumer complaints to the OFT on the matter.
