Grand prix fans get fence warning
Manx Grand Prix competitor
Racing gets under way on Saturday
The Manx Grand Prix could be stopped if spectators wander into areas prohibited by foot-and-mouth restrictions.

The racing will start on Saturday, much to the relief of tourism industry, but some sections of the mountain course will be closed to spectators.

There are special areas for fans at the Gooseneck, the Bungalow, Keppel Gate, and Creg-ny-Baa.

Clerk of the course Neil Hanson said he would not hesitate to stop the event if people ignored the rules.

"If people go into designated prohibited areas... then if they don't move after a warning we will stop the practice or stop the race if necessary," said Mr Hanson.

"If it happens before we have started it wouldn't start until they have moved and let no-one doubt that is what we will do."

A ban on people entering countryside paths was among the restrictions put in place by the Isle of Man government after the foot-and-mouth outbreak in the UK.

The blanket closure of footpaths was later lifted but unfenced paths crossing agricultural land remain closed.
