Organisers of the MGP welcomed the lifting of restrictions |
The Manx Grand Prix (MGP) has been given permission to go ahead after the government relaxed restrictions put in place due to foot-and-mouth disease. A special meeting of the Council of Ministers made the decision on Wednesday evening.
The racing will start on 18 August but some sections of the Mountain course will be closed to spectators.
The blanket closure of footpaths has been lifted but unfenced paths crossing agricultural land will remain closed.
Some paths will be reopened on a case by case basis.
Disinfection stations
The export of specific meat and dairy products from the UK to the Island is prohibited but the ban on importing horses has now been lifted.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Phil Gawne MHK, said that the Isle of Man is currently free of foot-and-mouth disease.
Organisers of the 2007 MGP welcomed the lifting of some of the restrictions and has arranged for disinfection stations for marshals to be set up around the course.
Landowners will also be told to move livestock away from the course before the event and spectators will be advised to use town areas and organised vantage points as much as possible.
