Plans to improve safety at the Isle of Man TT Races have been announced by the tourism minister.

David Cretney said that new safety barriers have been ordered for this year's races, and next year, the centenary year of the TT.

He spoke about the plans at the TT 2006 press launch at the Villa Marina.

Mr Cretney said safety barriers will be put up around Sarah's Cottage, and extra race marshalls will be in place for this year's event.

Next year, more safety fencing will be erected and improvements made to the grandstand.

This year's competition takes place from 27 May to 9 June.
