Mark Cavendish had won the island's first gold for 20 years

The cyclist ended the island's 20-year wait for a Commonwealth gold when he won the 20km (12.4 mile) scratch race.

But he came seventh in Sunday's 100-mile (160km) road race which was won by Australian Mathew Hayman.

Trevor Boyles and David Walton were the Isle of Man's other medal winners at the Games, winning bronze in shooting.

They finished third in the men's trap pairs.

Cavendish's gold is only the island's third ever - cyclist Peter Buckley won the first in Kingston, Jamaica, 1966.

The last gold had been won by Nigel Kelly in Edinburgh in the individual skeet shooting in 1986.

All of the island's golds have come in years ending in six.
