Mark Cavendish has won the island's third ever gold medal |
Cyclist Mark Cavendish ended the Isle of Man's 20-year wait for Commonwealth Games gold on Sunday when he won the 20km scratch race in Melbourne. It follows the bronze won by Trevor Boyles and David Walton in the men's trap pairs shooting.
The last gold was won by Nigel Kelly in Edinburgh in the individual skeet shooting in 1986.
Cavendish's gold is the island's third ever - cyclist Peter Buckley won the first in Kingston, Jamaica, 1966.
All of the island's golds have come in years ending in six.
