 Mark Cavendish won the island's first gold for 20 years |
Isle of Man Chief Minister Donald Gelling has sent his congratulations to the Manx Commonwealth Games team which has won its first gold for 20 years. Cyclist Mark Cavendish won gold in the 20km (12.4 miles) scratch race, and shooters Trevor Boyles and David Walton won bronze in the men's trap pairs.
Mr Gelling said he congratulated all who had won medals so far.
"It was truly breathtaking to watch Mark win the Gold medal and it made us all proud to be Manx," he added.
Mr Gelling said: "It certainly brought a lump to the throat to see the Three Legs of Man being raised over the velodrome and to hear the Manx National anthem being played."
Cavendish dedicated his victory to 13-year-old James Berry a promising Manx cyclist who was killed after a training ride in Greeba last December.
The gold medal winner was one a group of cyclists returning home from the ride when the teenager was hit by a wheel that had become detached from a lorry.
