Tony Brown says the lieutenant governor now has a more regal role

The Manx Parliament has backed a recommendation from a standing committee on constitutional matters to amend the title to Crown Commissioner.

The plans now have to go to the Queen for her approval.

The Isle of Man's new Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks, was sworn in on Monday.

Tony Brown, the Speaker of the House of Keys, said the new title would be more in keeping with modern developments.

"We are not talking about taking anything away," he said.

"We are talking about coming up with a title that is more appropriate for what the post holder now actually does.

"The lieutenant governor now has a more regal role where he represents the Crown."
