Plans to change the title of the Lieutenant Governor, the Queen's representative on the island, will be considered by Tynwald next week. A standing committee on constitutional matters is recommending in a report the title be amended to Crown Commissioner.
It is thought many people on the island want the title to be modernised.
Sir Paul Haddocks, the new Lieutenant Governor, arrives on the Isle of Man on Friday. Tynwald will consider the title change on 18 October.
If the changes were agreed, though it is unsure at this stage when the amendment would take effect, it would be the first time since 1765 that the island has not had a governor.
Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen OBE, the previous Lieutenant Governor, relinquished his post last month.
