Exporting rubbish abroad is being further investigated |
The head of a Guernsey skip company is calling on the States to make waste separation a priority. Last week politicians approved various measures to deal with future waste disposal on the island.
One such measure was an investigation into increasing segregation and recycling of rubbish, in order to reduce the amount going to landfill.
But Dan Hubert of Island Waste says suitable sites must be found and public health and planning issues resolved.

He said: "We're lucky at our company that we own Pointes Lane, but we appreciate it's not the right site to separate the volumes of waste we're separating.
"Yet from an island point of view, it's not just a NIMBY (not in my back yard) question. It's an island-wide problem.
"We're running out of landfill space and we must do something about it.
"We're not going to have a final alternative for a few years, so we must maximise the length of life left at Mont Cuet."
A final decision on whether to build a waste-to-energy incinerator in the island will be delayed until more research is carried out.
The exporting of rubbish to France and Germany is also going to be pursued.
