If a ban is introduced, smokers could use the planned area outside |
A pub landlord in Guernsey has applied for permission to build a beer garden to accommodate smokers if the proposed smoking ban goes ahead. Guernsey's Health Minister has vowed to push ahead with the plans to outlaw the habit in enclosed public places, despite calls for a rethink.
The issue will be debated in this month's States meeting.
But David Nussbaumer, who runs the Rockmount, said there was a need to provide a facility for smokers.
He told BBC News: "You always need to be one step ahead of the game and you have to have a plan.
"There is a plan there to provide a facility so that if smoking is banned people can come outside but still have some kind of shelter.
"If at the last minute there is a reprieve, what we're planning can be easily changed into a store for the garden furniture for the winter."
