Jersey could debate a ban on smoking in all enclosed work places including pubs and nightclubs. Politicians have agreed to bring in certain measures but the health authorities want to take them further.
The States agreed last year to measures in the tobacco strategy including restricting tobacco advertising and banning smoking where food is served.
Now the States is being asked to consider taking a further step and ban smoking in enclosed workplaces.
Senator Stuart Syvret, Jersey's Health President, said: "The evidence is when these kinds of restrictions are put in place to protect health it actually helps those who smoke to give up."
