New skatepark opens on B&Q site

The former DIY store has been completely cleared out
Skateboarders and BMX bike riders have a new place to practice in Guernsey.

They have been given permission to use the former B&Q site, which will be open until Easter.

ComProp Guernsey Limited has cleared out the building at its own expense and say it is now a safe indoor area for skateboarders and BMX bikers.

It should deter people from skateboarding illegally on Guernsey's historic monuments, said the chairman of the Xtreme Sports Association.

Deputy Mike O'Hara said he was thrilled that years of campaigning by the association, for proper facilities, had come to fruition.

The skate park is open every day, from mid-morning until 2100 GMT.
