Convenience increases recycling
Rubbish in bin
Islanders should be told the benefits of recycling
A local expert has dismissed the idea that recycling more of Guernsey's waste would necessarily take away the need for an incinerator.

Matt Poulson, who has been involved in the study of waste management for the States, still believes there are good reasons to recycle.

He claims it should be made easy for islanders to choose this option.

Mr Poulson said: "Recycling rates do increase if it's made more convenient for the general public."

He says the States should have a good communication strategy, in order for people in Guernsey to understand what its waste management strategy is, what the objectives are and what the benefits of recycling are.
