A trailer load of paper recycling is shipped to the UK each day |
Recycling fever has hit islanders in Guernsey, with record amounts of waste paper being deposited in the blue recycling bins. Mayside Recycling says they have been very busy, with one trailer load of paper recycling being shipped to the UK each day.
Manager Tommy Duquemin said: "Islanders in Guernsey seem to be taking on the recycling message with a fervour.
"But there's still room for more recycling in Guernsey."
Mr Duquemin says islanders may also recycle Christmas cards in the blue bins, as long as they are not made from laminated paper.
Guernsey has even won awards for the amount of recycling undertaken locally.
One of the clothing banks has been applauded as the most successful textile-recycling site in the British Isles under the Salvation Army's Clothing Bank Scheme.
The total tonnage of waste recycled rose from 3,043 tonnes in 1999 to 3,832 tonnes in 2002.
