Call for closer links with France
Jersey's Bailiff says the island should develop closer links with Normandy.

Sir Philip Bailhache is visiting Caen as part of the Channel Islands 1204 celebrations marking 800 years of links with the Crown.

At a reception in the town hall, Sir Philip said 1204 also marked Normandy's return to France.

He said rather than being English, the Channel Islands stood somewhere between France and England and it was important that non-islanders understood that.

He said that now many misunderstandings between the islands and France had been resolved, it was time to build closer links with Normandy which would be advantageous to both places.

The Bailiff's is due to address the Conseil Regional on Thursday evening.
