Calls for inter-island policies
Rockhopper
Deputies from both islands want a joint transport policy
A group of States' members from Jersey and Guernsey is discussing the possibility of a political alliance.

Eleven States' deputies met on Saturday to review inter-island cooperation.

They have backed calls for the establishment of a joint policy on transport and want to see more links with France.

The deputies are also calling for the introduction of a shared Monopolies Commission to protect consumers in all the islands.

Sensible co-operation

Jersey Senator Philip Ozouf says co-operation between the islands would save money and make them a more powerful economic force.

He denies he is proposing a single regional government.

Mr Ozouf said: "This is about co-operating where it's sensible for the benefit of all Channel Islanders.

"It is not about a pan-island government."
