Campaigners back relaxed pub laws
Drinks on table
Police are to check pubs are managed in an orderly fashion
Calls for a return to more restricted pub opening hours have been rejected by the Guernsey Alcohol Abuse Council.

Dave Newman, head of the counselling group, said he was still in favour of the extended licensing hours brought in last year.

He said he believed the new laws reduced the tendency to binge drink but it was too early for a final judgement.

His comments follow claims by Deputy Mike Torode that the extended hours had not reduced binge drinking.

Mr Newman said: "If over a period of years it still does not seem to be making a dramatic impact or is making the situation worse then it is right to relook at the issue and change it.

"But in this short period of time, I do not think it is realistic."
