Plan to tackle bad behaviour 'hampered'
Teenager and bottle
Binge drinking is being blamed
A Guernsey licensee says failure to combat rowdy behaviour in St Peter Port is being hampered by a handful of pubs.

Mark Pontin, the former President of the Guernsey Licensed Victuallers, said police were doing all they could.

But he said a few bars were continuing to serve people who were clearly drunk or underage, causing problems for other pubs, who then refused them entry.

His comments have been backed up by other licensees, who say rowdiness has got worse over the last few years mainly due to binge drinking.

Meanwhile, Guernsey Police have admitted that disorderly behaviour in St Peter Port is a significant issue.

Chief Inspector Ken Davey said the force would continue to work alongside other groups to improve the town's image and dispel fears of crime and disorder.

He is promising a continued police presence in the area but said there was a clear difference between unacceptable and unlawful behaviour.
