Recycling packing out waste boat
Litter bin
Alderney's recycling rate is higher than Guernsey's
Alderney's recycling scheme has become a victim of its own success.

Under the system, material is shipped off the island for free and the overall recycling rate has reached about 20%.

But the island's States engineer, Steve Price, says it is increasingly hard to find enough room for it aboard the weekly waste boat to Guernsey.

Alderney's States is now investing in methods of compacting the matter, and are encouraging residents to set up home composting.

Alderney's recycling rate is now just marginally higher than the rate in Guernsey.
