Support for raw sewage release
Little Russel
Sewage will be released into Little Russel for five weeks
A former politician is supporting the decision to pump raw sewage into the sea off Guernsey.

Work is under way to replace the main pipe along Glategny Esplanade in St Peter Port meaning effluent will be pumped into the sea for five weeks

Peter Bougourd is a former president of the Public Thoroughfares Committee.

Mr Bougourd said there has been a lot of "uninformed" comment and he believed the department has chosen the only option available.

Meanwhile the Environment Department has put up signs at beaches which may be affected by the sewage and will monitor water quality over the next few weeks.

Deputy Janine Le Sauvage, who is a frequent bather at La Vallette Pools, said the situation was unacceptable in the 21st Century
