Major road works along Glategny Esplanade in St Peter Port are beginning on Sunday. A contraflow system will be in operation for the next five weeks, as work to improve the sewerage system is carried out.
The Public Services Department will be replacing the main sewer between Bosq Lane and Salerie Corner.
The contraflow system has been designed to keep two-way traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.
While the work is being carried out, pedestrian and cycle paths along the road will be closed.
Public Services said it regretted the inconvenience it would cause road users, but the work was essential.
Once the work is completed, the road will be subject to a three-year repair embargo, during which only emergency work will be allowed.
