Wave height restriction on ferry
New Channel Island ferry operator HD's catamaran will not be able to sail when waves are higher than 2.5m (8.2ft), although its competitor will.

HD Ferries will start a daily service between Jersey and Guernsey and St Malo on Thursday.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency negotiated a wave height restriction with the company last Friday.

That restriction is 1m (3.3ft) lower than the one imposed on HD Ferries' rival operator Condor.

HD's first sailing is from Jersey at 0715 GMT on Thursday, three months since the new service was announced.

A twice-daily service from Jersey and one crossing a day from Guernsey will run from March to September.
