Graveyard row goes public
Flowers in graveyard
Only approved headstones are now allowed for graves
Guernsey residents angry at the condition of graves at Foulon Cemetery are being given a chance to air their views at a public meeting.

The row over the cemetery flared up last month after the Board of Administration warned relatives of people buried at the cemetery to take away loose flowers, ornaments, and memorials.

Campaigners have warned they will take legal action against the States.

The open forum is scheduled for 1930 on 9 October at the Grammar School lecture hall.

Relatives have been told offending items will be removed after 31 December.

Campaigners against the new directive say that they will be prosecuting the States for vandalism if the graves are tampered with.

The Board says that graveyard workers can no longer keep all of the cemetery clean and tidy because of an increase in unapproved ornaments and flowers.
