Trees cut down by vandals
Fifteen trees planted at a Jersey hospital after the great storm of 1987 have been cut down by vandals.

The trees in the grounds of Overdale Hospital in St Helier were up to 30 feet (9 metres) high.

Health and Social Services Director of Estates Mike Le Feuvre said he was shocked at what he called the "wanton damage" caused by the vandals.

There are now fears the dead wood left behind could be a fire risk.

The trees were in a valley between Overdale and the George V Cottage Homes. Mr Le Feuvre said it was a conservation area.

He added the trees stabilised the valley and the dead wood left by the vandals will cause a fire hazard in the current hot weather.

It is thought the damage will cost more than 1,000 to repair.
