Police carried 55 speed checks in the campaign |
More than 200 people have been stopped in Jersey's latest anti-speeding campaign. In total, 55 speed checks were held near schools over the three days by police this week to try and get drivers to slow down as the new term begins.
During the checks, the States of Jersey Police said 182 drivers were warned about driving too fast, while 20 were reported to appear either at parish hall enquiries or the Magistrates' Court.
Some 21 drivers were reported for driving too fast near schools.
The highest speeds recorded were 50 miles-per-hour in a 40 zone outside La Moye School, whilst another driver was caught doing 46 miles-per-hour in a 30 zone outside Trinity School.
One motorist was stopped driving at 38 miles an hour in the 20 zone outside St Mary's School - nearly double the speed limit.
Jersey's road safety officer, Philip Blake, said it is vital motorists observe speed limits.
