Speed limit to remain unchanged
40mph sign
The limit will not be lowered to 30 miles per hour
Jersey's maximum speed limit is to stay the same.

A working group set up by the Public Services Committee has rejected the idea of lowering it to 30 miles per hour.

The group says the maximum should stay at 40 miles per hour.

The group argued Jersey already has a very low accident rate and that there was no strong evidence to suggest it could be lowered further by reducing the speed limit.

The idea of introducing a maximum speed limit of 35 miles per hour and a limit of 25 miles per hour in built up areas was also rejected.
