People's meeting highlights housing
General view of Alderney
The meeting in Alderney considered a number of issues
Islanders in Alderney have requested the States to look into the Housing Trust situation.

At the Alderney's people's meeting on Wednesday night many people suggested that a Housing Association might be good for the island.

Other items on the agenda included a fee for the import and export of exotic animals and a fee to be paid on cars brought into the island.

The convenor of the meeting, Ralph Burridge, supported the proposals for a fee on the importation of vehicles into the Island.

By-elections

Mr Burridge says Alderney should not have to rely on taxpayers who do not own a car to pay for the disposal of other islander's vehicles.

It was also suggested car parking times at the airport should be reduced to a maximum stay of three days.

It was agreed many cars left at Alderney's airport remain there for weeks at a time making the car parking area crowded.

And a by-election is to take place on 28 June, following the resignation of Alderney States Member, Bill Walden.

All nominations must be received by 13 June.
