Sheltered housing approved
Site of the Rosaire Avenue development
Work on the housing development will begin later this summer
Work on a new sheltered housing development in Guernsey will begin later this summer.

The Housing 21 Guernsey Consortium has received Island Development Committee permission for a new development in Rosaire Avenue.

The development is the first joint public/private project of its kind in the island, providing sheltered housing with a significant element of affordability.

Once completed, there will be 50 self-contained flats which will be rented to elderly residents nominated by the Housing Authority.

Lifetime leases

Another 26 flats will be put up for sale on the local market.

The Consortium and the Housing Authority will also offer nine homes on lifetime leases.

Authority president, Deputy Bernard Flouquet, said he was delighted to have reached an agreement with the Consortium to provide the much-needed sheltered accommodation with a large number of homes for rent.

He said it was a cutting edge concept and believed the Rosaire Avenue project would make a significant contribution to meeting this particular housing need.
