Some residents in the New Jersey town complained after the show depicted a killing there, despite not having used the location for filming.

A request in 2001 was turned down by officials, who said they had not been given enough time to decide.

The final season of the award-winning show is to air in the US next year.

Boonton officials have a month to consider the latest request, but are still worried about possible traffic problems, the effect on local business and the previous depiction of the town on The Sopranos.

'Up front'

A vote of the town's governing board is likely to place on 1 August.

The show's executive producer Ilene Landress said another town where they wanted to film requested the episode be non-violent.

"They didn't want us to kill anybody in the town but we did.

"We were up front with people what was going to happen there. We didn't want to get thrown out," she said.
