Texas braced for Hurricane Ike

Residents in the US state of Texas have begun to leave their homes as Hurricane Ike cuts a swathe through the Gulf of Mexico.

Meteorologists say that Ike could develop into a major hurricane before hitting the Texas coast late on Friday.
