![]() HOMEEVENTSPHOTOSWALLPAPERS ![]() Semtex shines a light on Houston hip hopShow info | Houston artists | Semtex on Houston ![]() "In hip hop, Houston's known for the chopped and screwed sound (mad slowed down beats) and crunk. The city was one of the first southern parts of the US to get acknowledgement worldwide – Houston’s Geto Boys were the first Dirty South group. Now its all about Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Bun B & UGK, Scarface, Slim Thug, Chingo Bling and the street’s most wanted Z-Ro and Trae. In the Friday Night Mixtape I'm gonna bring you the hottest new artists, the hottest new music and get an ICED OUT GRILL (watch this space). Bring on the next wave of dirty south talent! On the Saturday Night Mixtape we'll be discovering the history of the Houston hip hop scene. Seriously, its influenced EVERYTHING you’re hearing in hip hop right now. Houston's influenced me a lot. It’s the home of a lot of independent labels – J Prince’s Rap-a-Lot Records is like the Def Jam of the south and they did it all on their own. You just need to look at the cars in the Rap-a-Lot carpark to see how big they are (stretch Hummers, vintage Cryslers, Harleys). All the southern artists that are successful now, the ones you’re hearing on remixes with Beyonce, did their grind independently and earnt their stripes in the city."
