The small Portugal-born population living in Britain is, anecdotally, one of the most mobile immigrant groups.
The largest static group is found in the Vauxhall area south of the Thames, a long-standing hub for the Portuguese community.
The predominance of Portuguese speakers has now encouraged others who speak the same language to arrive: many Brazilians favour areas like Vauxhall because of the Portuguese-language services and businesses.
Outside London there is a wide spread of Portugal-born people; many arrive for the agricultural picking season and then return home so the Census may not have accurately captured the complete picture.
