Overall in the 2001 Census there were 321,000 people who said they were born in Pakistan, up a third on 1991 and representing roughly 0.56% of the British population. London has seen the largest change in the numbers, yet - unlike for other nationalities - the capital does not dominate in terms of overall figures for Pakistan born. The capital's figures are only marginally bigger than those found in the West Midlands and Yorkshire.
