This category comprises all the nations in this region except Iran and Iraq. The full list is: Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

No data for this category was recorded in the 1991 Census so it is impossible to accurately measure change.

However, according to the 2001 figures, some 72,000 people born in the Middle East outside Iran and Iraq are in Britain, about 40% of them in London alone.

The highest numbers are in central London, with other clusters in Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool and Manchester.
